Yooooo, so last month I went downtown to Laicale, a dreamy salon in Soho, to get my mane chopped. I heard amazing things about the place from my friend Arushi, so I knew I would be in good hands. Previous to this, my last haircut was a spur-of-the-moment chop at a house party in someone's backyard in Bushwick with kitchen scissors. For real. I'd let it grow out since then but I was certainly ready to give my locks some luv. Like, real, tender affection, you know?
Kevyn, my stylist, gave me a consultation when I arrived. This was my original inspiration, but I wanted to keep a bit of length, and I wanted a slightly more wearable style for day-to-day. Kevyn and I even looked through my Instagram feed so he could see how I normally style my hair and to get an idea of what would work best. I basically told him to do whatever he wanted, within my inspiration criteria. He was magic!
I had taken some portraits of myself a little while back so I decided to shoot some more with my new 'do. Check out the before photos and after photos with curly/straight styling below. It's kind of like a modern Joan Jett style. I really dig this shag cut with choppy bangs. Looks like I've found a length and cut that works for my busy lifestyle. No matter if I wake up with bed head or if I have time to style my hair, I love that I don't have to spend too much time doing my hair. That's really what you want from a haircut, though, isn't it? Something that's easy to manage that also looks great. As women, we wear our hair every day. When it doesn't look good, we don't feel good. Many thanks to Laicale for an amazing experience!
